JOB TITLE: ADVOCACY MANAGER

LOCATION: Jakarta

ROLE PURPOSE:

in Indonesia is changing for the better. We built a national organization that aims to be a strong, local, and self-sustaining voice for children in Indonesia. To this end, SC Indonesia has been designated as a “Associate Member” and become family member. Indonesia has been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong local governance structure and building key partnerships with local government, the private sector, local civil society among others. Success of the pilot phase will set the Indonesia on a pathway to full membership.

In line with guidance provided by SMT, the post holder will contribute to building the most positive and affirming work environment possible and promoting culture of the organisation that is aligned with the mission, evolving goals and strategic ambitions aligned with the Membership Accountability Framework.

The post holder will also contribute to the standards as noted in the Prospect Member Framework as follows:

  • Responsible/Support on-going development and emergency programming of the existing portfolio in Indonesia to achieve ambitious breakthroughs for children,
  • Ensuring continued development & management of a high performing field office teams.
  • Contributing to the development of strong partnerships.
  • Contribute to effective advocacy and campaign for children and collaborate with other departments to implement advocacy and campaign initiatives that support the theory of change.
  • Helping to build a strong brand for the organization by ensuring compliance with global brand procedures and awareness of brand in local market.
  • Contribute to ensuring financial sustainability and growth orientation in the funding portfolio.

The post holder will be contributing to achievement of global KPI as follows:

  • Contribute to achievement of Operations delivery management indicators,
  • Contribute to achievement of Awards management indicators,
  • Contribute to achievement of Risk and financial management indicators,

Advocacy is central to securing lasting change in children’s lives and is a key aspect of ’s Theory of Change: be the voice – build partnerships – innovate – achieve results at scale. Advocacy Manager in his/her capacity is responsible to ensure excellence delivery of advocacy strategy and policy works to members and their donors, in both emergency and development contexts. She/he will work with the Deputy Program Impact and Policy to provide overall leadership, vision, strategic direction and management of YSTC’s policy advocacy work across thematic areas and ensure that advocacy is an integral part of ’s Theory of Change. Specifically, he/she is responsible for external policy analysis and policy advocacy strategy development for the country office supporting primarily on inequality that will influence government and institutions in changing and/or strengthening the implementation policies and practices to fulfil children’s rights.

Policy Advocacy Manager will develop and implement a humanitarian advocacy strategy for the emergency phase that links to existing advocacy priorities of the team in respect to ongoing advocacy engagement with key national stakeholders in relation to Child Rights Governance (CRG) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The function will be a focal person for advocacy enquiries in the Response Team and from International and individual members. The function will be part of the Humanitarian Team in order to ensure that key advocacy messages and strategies are informed by the response. She/he shall be able to be deployed to any other humanitarian areas to provide support on advocacy side.

The post holder will be working closely with the Advisors team under PIP on updating thematic data and with YSTC Advocacy and Campaign team (Director and Senior Manager) in particular when deliver integrated advocacy and campaign messages to the Government of Indonesia.

Working with the Program Impact and Policy (PIP), EMT and represent PIP Deputy of Chief, the post holder shares the accountability to build the most positive and affirming work environment possible and ensure that the management, staffing and culture of the organisation are suitably aligned with the mission, evolving goals and strategic ambitions aligned with the Member Accountability Framework.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years working in advocacy in an area of child health, protection, social development or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working in an emergency response context.
  • Significant prior experience working in advocacy on child rights, human rights, or development issues.
  • Experience of influencing and policy advocacy work including lobbying, policy development and information provision in humanitarian issues at national, regional and/or international level.
  • Excellent skills in advocating towards government officials and UN agencies in developing countries.
  • Experience of and strong skills in developing and implementing advocacy strategies
  • Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English, with experience in managing multicultural teams.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Extensive knowledge of child rights law and policies.
  • High-level analytical and strategic thinking skills and strong research skills
  • Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people.
  • Patience, adaptability, flexibility, and ability to improvise and remain responsive and to communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent planning, management, and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience in working with other NGOs and coordinating inter-agency advocacy activities, strategies, and products.
